In 2010, CCA Lagos began an innovative programme aimed at :

Bridging Educational Gaps in African Art Discourse
Filling a gap in the educational system in Nigeria and many African countries, which tend to ignore the critical methodologies and histories that underpin artistic practice.

Encouraging Critical Thinking
Using the format of part art workshop, part residency and part art academy, the art school programme will focus partially on technique and primarily on methodology, critical thinking, and the implementation of conceptual ideas.

Helping to Promote Artists
The programme will be of benefit to people interested in thinking through the conception and execution of work, artists who are curious and interested in experimenting with modes of practice and thought outside of the traditional modes of working but not to its total exclusion.

The Centre for Contemporary, Lagos (www.ccalagos.org) through a new publishing initiative is expanding the remit of Art-iculate. The objective is to develop three different types of publications.

Monographic Publication
The first will involve in-depth monographic publications on Modern Nigerian artists whose important contributions to Nigerian and Africa Art for over half a century will form an important addition to the Histories of Art across the continent.

Pocket Size Books
The second will focus on pocket size books developed featuring emerging/midcareer artists and the final segment will be survey publications on artists and the art sector in Nigeria and other African countries highlighting new artists, trends as well as focusing on a specific medium or even a theme.

Respond to Vaccum
The aim of the publishing initiative responds to the vacuum in platforms for critical, artistic and curatorial activities on the printed page.
ART EXHIBITIONS
Our exhibitions present a coherent and effective story for different themes in compilations rendered into a thoughtful selection of works.
